Our Vision
As the Deputy Police Chief of the Garner Police, I am proud to share our vision and commitment to fostering positive connections between law enforcement and the youth in our community. PAAL is built on the conviction that by reaching young people early, we can help them develop strong, positive attitudes toward police officers and instill the values of discipline, respect, and responsible citizenship.
Our mission is to cultivate trust and understanding between youth and positive role models through educational, athletic, and recreational activities. We believe that when children engage in interactive and hands-on experiences—whether that’s reading a stories, exploring the everyday experience of a police officer, or participating in team sports—they see a side of law enforcement that is approachable, compassionate, and genuinely invested in their well-being.
Through PAAL, our officers have the unique opportunity to step beyond traditional roles and connect with our community’s youth on a personal level. By inviting children into our world, we not only break down barriers but also build a foundation of trust that extends far beyond the ball field, gym, or classroom. These interactions are crucial as they help nurture a sense of mutual respect and enable our young people to see the human side of policing. This firsthand exposure not only demystifies the tools and techniques of modern law enforcement but also reinforces the values of teamwork, healthy competition, and community service.
As a department, we recognize the essential role that positive relationships play in shaping the future of our neighborhoods. When a child respects a police officer because of the constructive, friendly interactions they experience through PAAL, that respect naturally evolves into a broader understanding and acceptance of the laws we work hard to uphold. This ripple effect benefits not only the individual youth but also our community as a whole, promoting safer neighborhoods and stronger local ties.
I invite all community members—parents, educators, community leaders, and most importantly, the youth—to join us in our mission. Together, we can continue to build an environment where trust is nurtured, values are shared, and every interaction contributes to a brighter, more united future. PAAL is not just a program; it is a commitment to excellence, to community, and to the future of our young citizens.
